Clinical Hypnosis
What is Clinical Hypnosis?
Clinical Hypnosis is nothing more than an “altered state of the mind”. An example of an altered state of mind that almost everyone is familiar with is when you are going from work to home and you have absolutely no recollection of going past the mini-mart or making all the correct turns and stops, but you ended up at your destination anyway. I can tell you that it is not the stage act you see performed by entertainers!
Clinical Hypnosis is a collaborative relationship between two individuals. It is something we do together, not something I do to you. It requires the person to be able to concentrate or focus their attention, and to do so to such a degree that they can block distractions around them, eg., outside traffic, people talking in other rooms, etc. It is in this altered state that the mind becomes more open and receptive to new ideas (which they may accept or reject), and sensations may be experienced in a different way. It is in this state of mind that an individual can re-program their way of thinking about something to a way that is more desirable to them.
This “re-programing” of the mind could happen in one session, but most often it takes 8 to 10 sessions with a few follow-up sessions spaced out over the next 6 months or so. This is especially true with individuals that have unhealthy habits that they have had for years.
